1.Read Mitford’s essay. You can find a link to it in the Final Exam folder containing this exam. Consider the essay a personal narrative describing the defining moment of preparing a corpse for a funeral. Evaluate the essay. Consider theme and method. What point does the essay make about how Americans construct identity through their treatment of dead bodies? How does it make this point? Provide and evaluate examples of narrative method expressing theme.

2.Although Gould uses narrative elements at points in his essay (see the Week 10 folder), his approach is more abstract than the one Doyle uses in “Joyous Voladoras” (see the Week 7 folder). Their themes are quite similar. Which essay do you find more powerful? Why? Support your explanation by examining at least one example of method from each essay.
